Concerns with diversity and inclusion have been central to my research, teaching, and advising at the universities I worked for. As far as my experiences are concerned, these are ways of how to enhance them in higher education.
In my academic career, my research interest focused basically on human rights issues. The reason behind this was the existence of those who were deprived of their rights, including the university students. In the last edition of my book, titled Human Rights, the issue of an individual application was researched and written. I still care about such issues for my students as well not only in my research but also in my teaching and advising. In the past, I encouraged one of my students, who was refused to open a desk to make publicity and sell his newly published novel, to embrace his project.
Sometimes, I ask my students ‘who are interested in drawing or painting a picture, ‘who are interested in a musical instrument, and continue to say, ‘please bring with you the best pictures you have done, after assessing them at the department, my students’ selected pictures were exhibited at the art gallery during the exhibition days at the university. Besides, I love playing table tennis with my students. I observed from these activities that most of my responding students were women, and all students have more enthusiasm about learning the class. In my advising capacities, I encouraged my students to ponder the roles they might play in the alleviation of the vast inequities that continue to shape our world.
Looking forward to my role, I continue such educational activities at the department. Bearing in mind that diversity is not just a cultural and ethnic issue, and that diversity in the class involves how you think, learn, and communicate; So, it concerns different ages, backgrounds, learning styles, intelligence levels. I intend, therefore; first, to focus on interdisciplinary teaching second, to serve our students to have fundamental rights and freedoms in the society they live in, third, to enhance understanding of my students by expanding to use various instruments mentioned above including social media tool through videos, etc. in learning and teaching methods, fourth, to enhance the dialog with the students because it is a way of taking the energy of our differences.
